‘엄마표 영어’에 대한 비판적 담론 분석: 조기영어교육 관련 단행본을 중심으로

Abstract
This study applied Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis to find out what kind of discourse ‘Eommapyo (mother-brand) English’ is currently producing in our society. Content analysis and language network analysis were conducted on 178 related books published from 2013 to 2023. As a result of the analysis, the discourse related to Eommapyo English was divided into four themes: ‘step-by-step roadmap’, ‘Eommapyo English superiority theory’, ‘the power of reading English books’, and ‘language acquisition through exposure’. The discourse of 'Eommapyo English' reveals mothers’ efforts to reform modern educational methods and maternal ideology amid the wave of privatization and marketization of education and also the paradoxical role of mothers who want to present a new paradigm of early English education, but ultimately reproduce another competition trapped within the neoliberal system.
