Abstract

Korean Journal of English Language and Linguistics 18-2, 239-259. This study investigated pre-service English teachers’ creativity competency and their awareness and self-efficacy on creativity teaching. A total of 81 pre-service English teachers participated in an on-line questionnaire survey. The main findings are as the following. First, the participants had a high level of competency in the social dimension of creativity but their competencies in divergent thinking and curiosity were relatively low. Second, they agreed with the importance, necessity, and facilitative role of creativity teaching at school. However, they felt they are not sufficiently knowledgeable about creativity teaching. Their self-efficacy in creativity teaching was moderately high. Third, the pre-service English teachers’ creativity competency was correlated with their creativity teaching awareness and self-efficacy. Finally, no significant differences were found between pre-service English teachers and pre-service teachers in general.
