Abstract

The 2022 Revised National Curriculum of English identifies 36 derivational affixes that, when applied to 3,000 core vocabulary words, produce derivatives considered part of the same basic vocabulary set. Recognizing the challenges faced by those without a strong background in morphology, this paper provides a detailed analysis of these affixes, focusing on their grammatical functions and meanings, allomorphic variations, and the orthographic, phonological, or stress changes they may trigger. This comprehensive explanation is designed to support teaching material developers, educators, and students in enhancing their understanding of English L2 vocabulary.
